PACKING LIST
For a brief overnight stay, packing light is key. You'll need versatile pieces suitable for exploring the local town and countryside, spending time on the beach, and to enjoy dinner and drinks. Luckily, Stylecamp has plenty of key pieces that effortlessly mix and match, making light packing a breeze. Here's what I packed for the trip:
The Una Bodysuit: Lightweight and body-hugging, these bodysuits make a simple, summery style statement tucked into anything high-waisted. They roll up very small, so I was able to take 2 with me to give a couple of outfit options
The Betty Shorts: a summer essential in this comfortable and breathable soft linen-blend fabric, these are the perfect shorts for exploring the town or taking a stroll down the beach
The Hepburn Trousers: Flowing and comfortable to wear, the Hepburn trousers are always effortlessly stylish. Also makes a good back-up option to the Betty shorts, should the weather be not so fair.
The Cupro Summer Set: Elegant, co-ordinated style with this two piece set that feels relaxed and chic for dinner or drinks.
A patterned overshirt: The perfect Riviera style cover up for day or nighttime, and the eye-catching pattern adds a bit of pep to any outfit
Shoes: A pair of wedges and flat sandals mean you can dress any of these looks up or down
Swimsuit (optional): Only if you plan to take a dip in the English Channel!
ITINERARY
Morning: Antique Hunting in Rye
Start your day in the beautiful East Sussex ancient Cinque Port town of Rye, known for its cobbled streets and Medieval buildings that once protected the coast from invaders, and later harboured an infamous smugglers' trade.
Now a venue for art, culture and history, explore the many antique and independent shops Rye has to offer. You'll find unique treasures and vintage pieces down in the old Quay and peppered throughout the picturesque streets, where you'll also find plenty of quality cafes and eateries in the centre.
A stroll through the the old part of the town is a must, accessed through the looming Landgate tower, the last remaining Medieval entry point into the highest part of town.
Flat shoes are a must for exploring Rye - it's the only way to tackle its cobbled and hilly streets, lined with quaint and well-kept historic houses and dreamy views out into the surrounding countryside. Stylecamp's Hepburn trousers and Una bodysuit made a great combination for wandering the picturesque streets.
Afternoon: Beach Stroll and Picnic
After a morning of exploring, head to the nearby Camber Sands beach. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along its soft, sandy shores and grassy sand dunes and perhaps have a picnic.
If you have a pooch, the beach has a vast dog-friendly area, which our whippet enjoyed immensely. Outfit-wise, swapping the Hepburn trousers for the Betty shorts on this occasion was perfect for a relaxed yet chic beach look.
Evening: Dinner and Drinks
Return to Rye for a delightful dinner at one of the town's charming restaurants. The elegant cupro summer set is perfection for al-fresco dining, looking effortlessly stylish for the occasion - I teamed mine with a pair of rattan wedges for an evening look with classic Riviera flair.
After dinner, venture down to the Ypres Tower which looks over the old harbour and stop for a drink at the pub there, soaking in the cozy atmosphere of this historic town and views over the harbour.
Night: Cosy Beachside Retreat
End your day at a lovely countryside retreat just outside Rye - we stayed at The Gallivant, a boutique hotel just behind the sand dunes at Camber Sands, where we were well looked after and they also welcomed our dog. The perfect place to enjoy the serene environment and take a late-night walk under the stars. There was even a complimentary yoga session first thing the following morning, plus an excellent breakfast for total rejuvenation.
After Checkout:
The next day, journey out into the beautiful East Sussex/Kent countryside where the marshes stretch for miles with grazing sheep that produce the wool that this area is known for. On our way home we stopped at one of our favourite haunts, the Woolpack Inn in Warehorne, which offers great food and drink as well as tranquil surroundings.
Rumour has it that the pub and the church opposite are connected by tunnels, orignally used by the local smugglers at the height of their noteriety.
There are some beautiful countryside walks in this area taking in the marshes and winding Royal Military Canal, before treating yourself to a refreshing drink and indulging in good food at the pub. The perfect end to a relaxing trip!
Whether you're a history enthusiast, an antique lover, or someone in need of a serene escape, Rye and its surrounding countryside provide the perfect setting for a brief, rejuvenating retreat. The historic streets, scenic beaches, and cosy countryside accommodations create an idyllic atmosphere for relaxation and exploration.
With your Stylecamp essentials packed, you'll effortlessly transition from morning strolls through ancient cobblestone lanes to afternoon picnics on sandy shores, and elegant evening dinners. So, pack your versatile Stylecamp pieces and embark on a Rye adventure, where every corner reveals a picturesque view.
